How long does it take to raise a gpa?

I don't know my gpa yet, this is my first semester in college. The thing that worries me is that my only cl that counts toward my gpa is my english cl, my other cles are remedial cles! I was wondering how long would it take for a gpa to raise if for example i had a 1.4 or 1.5 gpa to a 3.0 or higher? I heard that it depends on how many cles your taking and how much time i got left to graduate, does that mean i have a pretty good chance to raise my gpa?
