My rook piercing has this weird red bump, what should I do?

I've had my rook for about a month and a half, and it just turned up with a red small bump. I kinda stopped cleaning it really well, and recently I watched a movie with headphones, and I also pick off the crusties because I like the ball from my CBR to not go in the little crevice and be hidden. I'm going to stop touching it and start cleaning it again, but will this help, and is there any other advice?
